One day on a class trip, Sorata Suzuhara hears a mysterious song and wanders off only to black out. When he wakes, he finds himself in a strange place. Soon he meets a young girl who tells him he's in turn-of-the-century Japan. To find his way home, Sorata follows the young girl to a ship she's waiting for, only to discover it isn't a wooden sailing ship, but a massive round aircraft that soars through the sky using futuristic technology. After climbing aboard, Sorata discovers there are a dozen other passengers, all of whom are espers and possess special powers. They are also on a mysterious journey at the request of a multinational entity known as The World. Before Sorata can ask any of the questions that are swirling around his head, the ship is attacked.
